Cape Lookout Trail

The Cape Lookout Trail is a great trail that winds through a Sitka Spruce rainforest, peeks over cliffs, and ends up looking out over the Pacific Ocean. You never actually get close to the ocean - you are always high above it, and can see birds flying around below you as you look over the close-to-vertical cliffs.

This is not a trail for someone scared of heights.

To get here, take the Three Capes Scenic Route off highway 101. Once you get to Cape Lookout State Park, it's right at the top of the biggest hill. There is a large parking area with an outhouse.

From the parking lot, there are also two other trails you can take - the north trail, or the south beach trail. We didn't take either of these, but it looks like if you do these, you lose a lot of elevation.
