There are two ways to get up Whistler's Mountain - either hike or take the tram. The tram is quite expensive (something like $30 per person last time I was there) but is much easier than hiking. The hiking trail is quite boring until you get to the upper tram station anyway, so I would advise taking the tram unless you're really short on cash or want the exercise.
The hike from the upper tram station to the summit is fairly easy and very rewarding. This section is entirely above the tree line. Early (or late) in the season there will still be snow up here too.
There is a restaurant and giftshop at the upper tram station. Sometimes there is quite a wait for the tram, depending how busy it is.
To get here, head south of the town site on highway 93, and turn right (west) very quickly. There are a lot of signs, so it's pretty hard to miss.
