An easy hike that winds through the trees up a small mountain---Tunnel mountain, so named because the railroad was going to tunnel through it, but didn't. Trailhead is quite close to the Banff Centre, off Tunnel Mountain Drive.
There's lots of lookouts over the Bow River and Banff Townsite along the way. It's well marked. I've done the hike at all hours, including coming down after dark (but stay on the path if you do this, and it's probably not recommended). No water along the trail, so pack it with you.
