Johnston Canyon

Johnston Canyon is an extremely popular walk in Banff, accessed from highway 1a. I've gone in winter, and I've gone late in the evening, but during the day the parking lot is usually over-full and the walk crowded. On the other hand, it is crowded because it is an easy walk with beautiful scenery. If you don't mind crowds, by all means take a couple hours and go see both of the falls.

At the first falls there is a tunnel through the rock so you can get closer to the falls.

If you want to keep going further, you can go to the Inkpots, which are a few round pools in a meadow. The views open up a bit in the meadow and the inkpots are pretty neat, but not as spectacular as the falls in the canyon. In winter they're a little more interesting because they are often free of ice.
