Chinook Lake is a provincial recreation area. It costs $14 a night to camp here, but is free for day use. There is a short trail around the lake (it's not a very big lake) which is a very easy walk.
It's a nice area of tall pines with picnic areas and shelters scattered about. Quite pleasant for lunch.
You can start a number of hikes from here. Many of the trails are groomed for skiing in winter.
The road to get here is horrible though. Either drive very slow and carefully or have a four-wheel drive.
