Eagle's Nest Pass
Eagle's Nest Pass is a little ways into Willmore Wilderness Area. To get here, you start hiking at the Rock Lake staging area, and walk along the "Indian Trail" for 4 - 8 hours depending how fast of a hiker you are. The Indian Trail up to this point is not very spectacular, except the last couple kilometers.
The actual area around the pass and the campgrounds is amazing. It's not particularly high altitude, but there are at least 3 amazing ridgewalks a few hours from camp. There is also a nice little unnamed lake a couple hours to the south-east.
The pass goes through the Persimmon Range in the Rocky Mountains. Although this is in the middle of the mountains, other ranges are quite far away. The valleys are wide and open, so even at low elevations you can see quite far.
You wont often meet other people here, but if you do, it will probably be a bunch of people on horses. Because Willmore Wilderness Area is so huge, and no motorized vehicles are allowed, horses are an ideal mode of transportation. However, hiking is much more economical for some of us, and works quite well.
