Beaverhill Bird Observatory
Beaverhill Natural Area surrounds Beaverhill Lake, about an hour east of Edmonton. The Bird Observatory is a treed area on the south end of the lake that has trails running through it, and is regularly staffed by people keeping track of migrations and populations of many different birds.
The trails around here are short and well kept. You don't ever really get down to a lake, as Beaverhill lake is more a huge field of grass and reeds with a bit of water way out in the middle. The lake averages 1.5 feet deep (roughly half a meter).
This is an excellent area for birdwatchers, but the trails are quite nice for anyone.
The land is flat, and the forest is almost entirely poplar, with willows around the edges. It is surrounded by marshes and prairie.
To get here from Tofield, head east on 626. Where the 626 turns south, keep going east, till you get to the end of the road. A few meters before the end of the road, on the north side there is a texas gate. Go across the gate, and head up a short, very bumpy road to the parking area. There is a trail sign at the parking area.
