Sunshine Meadows
At the top of the Sunshine Village ski resort, there is a large, relatively flat area of beautiful alpine meadows. Along with the short loop you can walk around this area, a number of hikes go through here, and start off here.
While you can get a shuttle ride up and down, there still is a bit of elevation gain, so you should be prepared for a hike.
There are a couple loops you can do: The main loop goes by Rock Isle Lake and loops back to the buildings. This is the biggest loop, and will take a few hours to do.
Two side loops branch off - the main one to Larix and Grizzly Lakes goes down into the trees, by Grizzly Lake, to a lookout over a valley, and around Larix Lake. Larix and the lookout are especially worth the trip.
The other small loop goes into the middle to the top of the hill where there is a big lookout. The views are amazing.
During tourist season, this can be a busy hike. To avoid crowds, come here either before or after the shuttle is running. We took the shuttle up in the mid-afternoon, and then walked down at night. We had the whole evening mostly to ourselves. Be aware it is a long way down though.
