A great day hike. When I went, we had to travel in groups of at least four because of bear activity in the area.
It starts out as a steady climb - switchbacks through the forest. After quite a bit of climbing, it starts to open up into a valley full of larch (aptly named Larch Valley). It also flattens out a bit for the walk to the lake. From the lake (even a bit before) you can see the pass, and see that there is a bunch more climbing to do. The scree slope is not particularly hard to climb though. The trail is well travelled, and though it climbs a lot, you're never slipping back down.
The view from the pass is pretty nice, but if you're fit and ok with a bit of scrambling, keep going up the north-west slope of Mt. Temple. The views get progressively better.
You also have the option of going over the pass and heading back down Paradise Valley to the road. You'll have to either have two cars for this option, or to hitch a ride back to the Morraine Lake parking lot.
