Cooking Lake Blackfoot Rec Area

Log in to rate, comment, or add pictures!

The Cooking Lake / Blackfoot recreation area is a large area east of Edmonton filled with rolling hills, swamps, and lakes. It is called "knob and kettle terrain" which was formed when the massive glacier covering most of Canada broke apart and melted in this moraine.

There are quite a few elk and moose in the area as well as other wildlife. It is mostly treed with some large fields. Occasionally there will be cows here and the fields have fences around them.

There are miles and miles of trails networked all through the area. You can walk on all the trails, bike on a lot of them, and ride horses along a lot of them too. In winter, some of the trails are groomed for cross-country skiing. No camping is allowed.
